Locals rescued tangled roseate spoonbill in Florida

On March 24, locals in Dunedin, Florida, banded together to rescue a roseate spoonbill caught in fishing line. The bird was tangled around its leg and its wing feathers. John Yanchoris captured the entire rescue on video while flying a drone over the Dunedin Causeway. The rescue began when a couple spotted the struggling bird and called for help. Yanchoris, along with the couple and another nearby woman, worked tirelessly to free the spoonbill. At one point, Yanchoris noted that the bird remained calm, which helped the team stay focused on their task. As they untangled the line, they made sure to check the bird for injuries. After some effort, they successfully removed the fishing line and released the spoonbill back onto the causeway. Observers expressed hope that fishermen would be more careful in the future to prevent such incidents. The group felt relieved to see the bird safe and free.
