Local support helps bring Scarborough film 'Morningside' to theaters

Fefe Dobson stars in "Morningside," a new film set in Scarborough, opening in select theaters. The film follows seven characters at a community center, addressing themes like relationship struggles and gentrification. Filmmaker Ron Dias faced challenges securing funding, as local financiers were hesitant after previous Scarborough films. Eventually, support came from the community and U.S. streamer AllBlk, with Telefilm later providing marketing funds. The film features local actors and authentic dialogue, showcasing the culture of Scarborough. It will also stream in the U.S. on AllBlk and has plans for theatrical release in Detroit.
