Lesotho is the only country entirely above 1,000m

Lesotho, known as the "Kingdom in the Sky," is the only country entirely above 1,000 meters in elevation. It is surrounded by South Africa and has limited agricultural land, leading many residents to seek work across the border. The country exports water, referred to as "white gold," and diamonds. Lesotho also has the highest ski resort in sub-Saharan Africa, Afriski, located in the Maloti mountains, attracting visitors for winter sports. Lesotho faces significant challenges, including one of the highest HIV rates globally and the highest suicide rate. The U.S. has invested nearly $1 billion in HIV support since 2006.
