Large gorse wildfire burns in Dublin Mountains
Firefighters responded to a significant gorse wildfire in the Dublin Mountains near Glencullen last night. Two fire engines stayed on site throughout the night as crews worked to control the flames. The fire has created a haze on nearby roads, reducing visibility. Dublin Fire Brigade officials said they will continue to monitor the area, noting that rain expected later may help put out the fire. Fire crews used hand tools and lightweight hoses to manage the blaze and stop it from spreading. There has been concern from local officials about the need for more fire prevention measures as summer approaches, when wildfires are more likely. Wildfires in this area have been a recurring problem, with at least one reported annually since 2019. Strong winds have also helped spread smoke across a wide area. Residents have been advised to keep windows closed to avoid inhaling smoke. The fire brigade has warned drivers about the haze affecting some roads on Dublin's south side this morning due to the wildfire.
