Labour has selected Cheshire councillor Karen Shore as its candidate for the upcoming Runcorn and Helsby by-election. This follows the resignation of Mike Amesbury, who left after being convicted for assaulting a constituent. Amesbury, previously a Labour MP, was suspended after the incident and has been sitting as an independent. He received a suspended prison sentence and announced he would step aside.
