Kolkata airport records highest passenger numbers in 2024 with packed flights

Kolkata airport saw a record number of passengers in 2024, with an average of 146 per flight, up from 143 in 2019. The total passenger count reached 2.1 crore, an 18% increase from 2023. The airport operated approximately 1.5 lakh flights last year, adding only 5,085 flights compared to 2023. While domestic flights increased, international flights slightly decreased, highlighting a need for more global routes. Officials noted that the airport's performance improved significantly post-Covid, but growth is limited by the number of flights. There are calls for the revival of international routes to enhance passenger numbers further.
