Kirk Hammett considers revisiting Metallica's 1990s blues sound

Kirk Hammett, the lead guitarist of Metallica, is open to the idea of making another blues rock album like their 1990s releases. During a recent podcast interview, he discussed the band's past and hinted at revisiting that part of their musical journey. Hammett acknowledged that the band's 90s albums were controversial among long-time fans. He noted that despite the initial backlash, many fans now appreciate those songs, especially when performed live. The guitarist recalled how their sound, appearance, and recording approach changed during that time, incorporating more blues and jazz influences. Hammett also explained one of the reasons he cut his hair short was to look better in a suit. He felt that a shorter hairstyle was more suitable when wearing formal attire. Metallica's 1996 and 1997 albums marked a significant shift in their style. After that, they returned to a more raw sound in 2003 and eventually embraced their roots again with their 2008 album. The band is currently promoting their latest album, released in 2023, and will be touring North America from April to June.
