Kiran Bedi defends past surveillance of her daughter
Kiran Bedi, a former police officer, has defended her actions from 22 years ago regarding surveillance of her daughter. She claimed that she ordered the police to protect her daughter from a man she believed was exploiting her. Bedi stated that her request was made out of concern as both a mother and a police officer. A recent report alleged that Bedi misused her power and violated privacy laws by initiating a surveillance operation involving her daughter and a man she was dating. The report suggested that this man was involved in illegal activities related to visa processing. Bedi, however, emphasized that she was acting to safeguard her daughter during a time when she was away in New York. According to the report, the surveillance led to potential leads in a separate sexual assault case but did not result in any formal legal action against the couple involved. Bedi has rejected claims that she breached anyone's privacy, asserting that her actions were lawful and necessary under the circumstances. Bedi also raised questions about how the report's authors accessed her old emails and argued this could constitute a breach of her privacy. She expressed concerns about the timing of the news story, suggesting it might be related to ongoing legal matters involving her daughter's marriage. In her response, Bedi reiterated that her sole goal was to protect her daughter and insisted that no wrongdoing had occurred on her part.
