Kidney transplant caused parasitic infection in US man
A 61-year-old man in the US developed a parasitic infection throughout his body after receiving a kidney transplant, leading to severe illness. The man experienced nausea, vomiting, and excessive thirst, followed by fever and abdominal pain. The infection spread from his lungs and abdomen to his skin, causing him to become critically ill and eventually require treatment with anti-parasitic medication. The parasitic infection, identified as Strongyloides stercoralis, originated from the transplanted kidney. The man recovered after receiving medication, highlighting the risk of parasitic infections in organ transplant recipients.
