Kerala reduces crop insurance area requirement for cardamom farmers

The Kerala government has changed its crop insurance scheme for cardamom. The minimum area for insurance coverage has been reduced from one hectare to one acre, aiming to include more small-scale farmers. This revision follows significant crop damage in Idukki district due to drought and heatwaves earlier this year. The annual premium for insuring one acre of cardamom is set at ₹600. Farmers can pay ₹1,500 to secure insurance for three years. Compensation for total damage to one acre of cardamom is fixed at ₹24,000.
