Kerala raises electricity tariffs while rejecting summer rate proposal
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a hike in electricity tariffs by 16 paise per unit for the remainder of the 2024-25 fiscal year and 12 paise for 2025-26. This change will take effect from December 5, 2024. The commission rejected a proposal for a new summer tariff and did not revise tariffs for 2026-27. Fixed charges for single and three-phase consumption will also increase, while tariffs for certain low-income consumers will remain unchanged. Additionally, the commission introduced time-of-day tariffs for consumers using over 250 units monthly, offering a 10% discount during the day. A green tariff for renewable energy will continue until 2026-27.
