Kentucky launches online auction for rare confiscated bourbons
Kentucky has launched its first online auction of confiscated alcohol, allowing the sale of rare bourbons. Notable bottles include Old Rip Van Winkle and Blanton’s Single Barrel Gold. Bidding starts today and ends on December 11. This auction is made possible by a new law permitting the sale of alcohol from closed criminal cases. Previously, such alcohol had to be destroyed. The auction features 32 bottles, including a “stock the bar” bundle. Proceeds will support responsible alcohol use programs. Winning bidders must pick up their items in Frankfort, as shipping is not available. Kentucky distillers produce 95% of the world’s bourbon supply.
