Karl Vilips wins Puerto Rico Open, adjusts club selection
Karl Vilips, a young golfer, has quickly made a name for himself on the PGA TOUR. At just 23 years old, he recently won the Puerto Rico Open in only his third tournament. Vilips has always found long-irons challenging to hit. He used a 3-hybrid for a while, but it didn't provide enough spin for his game. While the hybrid helped him achieve victory at the Pac-12 Championship last year, he wanted something more effective. To fill the gap between his 4-iron and 3-wood, Vilips chose a new club. The club carries about 250 yards in the air, which is an improvement over his previous hybrid that only went about 240 yards. This new option gives him much more versatility. He can easily hit different types of shots, like a 220-yard shot with spin or a long, low-spin shot that reaches 260 yards. Additionally, it performs well in windy conditions. Vilips appreciates that the ball may seem to spin but does not lose much distance in the wind.
