Karachi mayor calls for action over mere gestures
The ongoing disagreement between Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori highlights issues facing the city. Mayor Wahab has stated that problems cannot be solved just by gestures like Iftar and Sehri. He insists that real change requires consistent and practical work. Wahab, who is part of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), addressed the media, stressing the need for concrete actions rather than propaganda. He emphasized that the PPP remains committed to solving public issues, regardless of political differences. He also offered prayers for protection against adversaries and expressed hope that Ramadan would bring blessings to Karachi. In his defense of the PPP, Wahab praised Governor Tessori as a close friend. He mentioned that, on Tessori's advice, he wrote to the federal government seeking Rs100 billion for development projects in Karachi. This funding is crucial, especially for projects like the Northern Bypass, which would help alleviate the city's traffic issues. Governor Tessori responded by saying his focus during Ramadan is solely on serving the public. He noted his hosting of Iftar meals for various dignitaries and providing free services like residential plots and phones to needy citizens. Tessori advised critics to work on improvements instead of feeling jealous of his popularity. He stressed that community service should be the measure of success. The governor believes that winning hearts through service is more important than seeking recognition or power.
