Manoa Kamikamica, one of Fiji's deputy prime ministers, has spoken in support of Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. Kamikamica believes Rabuka is the right leader to help rebuild the country after many years of dictatorship. Kamikamica's comments came after Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry criticized Rabuka for his leadership. Chaudhry called Rabuka "unfit" to lead and pointed out his recent decision to remove MP Lynda Tabuya from the Cabinet. Tabuya was dismissed after appearing in a controversial video. According to Kamikamica, Rabuka is backed fully by the coalition government. He emphasized that some critics do not contribute positively to discussions. Kamikamica pointed out that Rabuka has worked to guide Fiji through tough times since the end of the long dictatorship that began with a military coup in 2006. Kamikamica explained that in a Westminster system, the Prime Minister has the right to make decisions, even changing his mind. He urged everyone to support Rabuka’s efforts to improve Fiji, which he described as being in "a mess" due to past leadership. He also stated that unifying the country is crucial. Kamikamica dismissed any personal ambitions for the Prime Minister position, stating that current focus should be on delivering changes that the people expect. Kamikamica highlighted ongoing issues, particularly in the health system. He mentioned that it took time to assess the situation, revealing that the system is in poor condition. As a result, the government has developed a plan to address these problems and aims for significant improvements in the coming years.
