Farmers in Kalaburagi district have received a significant financial boost. The government has allocated Rs 667.73 crore to support 2,36,933 agricultural households in the area. This relief package includes crop insurance payments and compensation for crops lost due to natural disasters. The funds primarily assist farmers growing Tur, green gram, black gram, soybean, and cotton. Priyank Kharge, the minister for rural development and district in-charge, emphasized the government's commitment to helping farmers. He stated that no farmer should be left behind during tough times. Out of the total amount, Rs 575.1 crore is designated for crop insurance claims for over 2,04,073 farmers affected during the previous monsoon season. Additionally, interim assistance of Rs 76.3 crore has been provided to 2,01,847 farmers who suffered losses from localized disasters. Payments will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts to streamline the process. The minister also mentioned a support price of Rs 7,550 per quintal for Tur, along with an extra incentive of Rs 450 per quintal. This comprehensive financial support aims to help farmers recover from the impact of severe weather conditions that affected their crops across 16,373 hectares in 2024. The government hopes to strengthen the agricultural community and ensure stability in the farming sector.
