Justice Department confirms Google's business breakup requirements
The Justice Department has reaffirmed its plan for Google to break up its business, following a judge's ruling that the company abused its search monopoly. Google must sell its Chrome browser to allow competition in search access. The DOJ also aims to ban Google from paying companies like Apple to make its search engine the default. However, it dropped a proposal to force Google to sell its stakes in AI startups, instead requiring notification before AI investments. Google plans to submit its own proposals for remedies. The case will be heard by Judge Amit Mehta in April, who will decide on the final outcomes.
