Julie raises awareness about disability in her community
Nicola Welford is a mother from County Tipperary, Ireland. She has a 10-year-old daughter named Julie, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy (CP). Today, on March 25, they mark Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day. During her pregnancy, Nicola and her husband Fergus went for an 11-week scan. The doctor became silent after spotting fluid at the back of Julie's neck. This led to health concerns and the diagnosis of cerebral palsy after Julie was born. Nicola has taken on the role of advocate for her daughter. She is proud of how Julie has helped raise awareness about disabilities. However, she notes that accessing disability services has become increasingly difficult. Despite the challenges, Nicola celebrates Julie's progress and the understanding she brings to others about living with a disability.
