JNPA secures land in Mumbai for new office building
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has found a new office location in Mumbai. The authority will build a 20-floor office at Mallet Bunder Road to support its growing operations. The completion is expected in two years. The new office will accommodate more staff as JNPA continues to expand. Currently, it operates from Express Towers at Nariman Point. The chairperson of JNPA, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, noted that the new office reflects the need for better infrastructure to handle increasing trade demands. The office building will be built on a 3.16-acre site, with an estimated construction cost of around ₹1,000 crore. It will include features that make it a high-rated green building. There may also be space for Public-Private Partnership operators, as well as departments from the Maharashtra government. Wagh mentioned plans to reach out to both the union and state governments to house them in the new building. A digital observatory, which will use technology for analysis and monitoring, is also planned for the top floor. Engineers India Limited has been hired to oversee the project’s design and management. In 2022, there were discussions about moving JNPA’s office to the Air India building at Marine Drive, but plans changed when the Maharashtra government showed interest in that property.
