Ji.hlava festival opens with focus on social issues and cultural stories
The Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival has launched its 28th edition, featuring 340 films over ten days in the Czech town of Jihlava. The festival highlights Czech and Slovak culture, with a focus on pressing social issues. The opening film, “Ms. President,” explores the challenges faced by Slovakia’s first female president, Zuzana Caputova. Another notable entry, “Happiness to All,” examines the life of a Russian bricklayer, reflecting on the complexities of Russian society amid ongoing conflict. This year, the festival has expanded its programming to include projects from East and Southeast Asia. It also emphasizes ethical discussions in documentary filmmaking, addressing topics like censorship and the representation of marginalized voices.
