Japan's defense minister meets with Philippine president to discuss security ties

Japanese Defense Minister Nakatani Gen visited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on February 24, 2025, at Malacañang Palace. They discussed strengthening defense relations between Japan and the Philippines amid regional changes. Nakatani highlighted recent advancements in defense and security cooperation under both leaders. He emphasized the need to enhance ties due to a complex regional security environment. Earlier, Nakatani met with Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. in Makati City. He also visited military bases where Japanese radar systems are stationed.
