A new Istat report reveals a significant gender gap in Italy, with 40% of women over 50 not working and lacking a pension. This highlights economic vulnerability among older Italian women. The report, based on 2023 data, shows that only 68.3% of women aged 65-74 receive a pension, compared to 87.7% of men. Furthermore, 26.8% of women in this age group neither work nor receive a pension, a rate nearly five times higher than men. Italy's percentage of people aged 50-74 without work or a pension is among the highest in Europe. The average age for receiving the first old-age pension is 61.4 years, similar to the European average.
