Israeli army admits failure to prevent Hamas attack
An internal Israeli army investigation has revealed a "complete failure" to prevent Hamas's October 7 attack, acknowledging that the military underestimated the group's capabilities. The report highlights significant intelligence and operational shortcomings. The attack resulted in 1,218 Israeli deaths, mostly civilians, and led to a large-scale conflict in Gaza, with over 48,000 Palestinian casualties reported. The inquiry, which spans 15 months, focuses on military perceptions, intelligence failures, and the army's response. Israel's armed forces chief, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, accepted full responsibility for the failure and announced his resignation. Other military leaders have also stepped down in the wake of the investigation's findings.
