Israel military acknowledges failure to prevent October 7 attack
Israel's military has admitted to a "complete failure" in preventing the October 7 Hamas attack, which resulted in over 1,200 Israeli deaths. This acknowledgment comes amid a fragile truce that has paused fighting since January 19. The truce's first phase is set to expire soon, with negotiations ongoing in Cairo. Hamas recently returned the remains of four hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, including the longest-serving prisoner, Nael Barghouti. The military's internal probe revealed overconfidence in assessing Hamas's capabilities. As of now, 58 hostages remain in Gaza, while the war has caused extensive destruction in the region, displacing nearly the entire population.
