Ireland has zero prosecutions for illegal e-scooter modifications

thejournal.ie

No prosecutions have been made for illegal electric scooter modifications in Ireland, despite legislation enacted over a year ago, according to a Fine Gael TD. The Road Traffic (Electric Scooters) Regulations 2024, introduced last May, prohibited modifications that compromise safety or alter speed. Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan confirmed no prosecutions have been recorded for these offenses. Concerns have been raised about the lack of enforcement, as modified scooters are often used unsafely. Gardaí are using speed testing kits, but there's a disconnect between seizures and prosecutions.
