Ireland considers peacekeeping mission to Ukraine if ceasefire is reached
Ireland's Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, indicated that Ireland would consider sending peacekeepers to Ukraine if a ceasefire is established under UN principles. This marks a potential shift in Ireland's stance on international peacekeeping missions. During a meeting with EU and other leaders, Martin emphasized the need for Ukraine's accelerated EU membership and credible security guarantees. This meeting highlighted a growing divide in Western support for Ukraine, particularly following comments from US President Donald Trump. Trump suggested Ukraine was to blame for the war, which drew criticism from Irish officials. They reaffirmed the importance of including Ukraine in peace discussions and maintaining a commitment to international law and principles.
