Ipswich Town plans major redevelopment of historic Cobbold Stand with hotel and aquatics center
Ipswich Town plans to redevelop the Cobbold Stand at Portman Road, which has been in use since 1971. The club has reached an agreement to purchase land next to the stadium, allowing for significant improvements, including a new aquatics center and hotel. The Ipswich Borough Council's masterplan includes a multi-storey car park and facilities for the football club. The current Crown Pools will be replaced with a modern facility, while the Cobbold Stand renovation will temporarily reduce stadium capacity by 4,000 seats. In a separate development, Manchester United is considering building a new stadium instead of renovating Old Trafford. The new facility is expected to cost around £2 billion and will be located on adjacent land, with completion targeted for 2030.
