Iowa AG warns residents of impersonation scams

Iowa's Attorney General Brenna Bird has alerted residents about scammers pretending to be from her office. This warning was issued on Monday after reports of scammers targeting individuals who have lost money in cryptocurrency scams. The scammers are using social media platforms like Facebook and Telegram to reach their victims. They claim to offer refunds for losses incurred through cryptocurrency ATMs. Some of these fake accounts use Bird's photos and a seal that suggests they are part of an official division. Bird emphasized the importance of recognizing these scams. She stated, “If someone claiming to be from my office offers you a refund for crypto ATM scams, it’s fake.” She encourages anyone approached by these scammers to call her office for assistance at the number 1-888-777-4590. Victims of these scams should not send money or personal information. They are also encouraged to report any suspicious accounts online.
