Investigation launched after elderly woman's unexpected death
An investigation is underway after the sudden death of an elderly woman at a nursing home in County Laois. The incident occurred at Droimnin Nursing Home in Stradbally on St. Patrick’s Day. Gardaí were called to the facility after reports of an incident involving a woman in her 80s. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) has been notified about the situation. A spokesperson confirmed that they are aware of the tragic incident and are following regulatory procedures. They noted that the nursing home must inform HIQA within three days of any unexpected resident deaths. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has also been notified and has started its own investigation. A spokesperson for the HSA stated that they cannot release further details at this time. The focus remains on understanding what led to the woman's death.
