India's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant becomes fully operational
India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, the INS Vikrant, is now fully operational, according to the Indian navy. This 44,000-ton vessel is the largest military ship built in India and enhances India's naval capabilities amid competition with China. China has the world's largest navy, including three aircraft carriers and over 370 ships and submarines. India, with 172 nuclear warheads, aims to strengthen its maritime presence, especially in the Indian Ocean, where both nations are vying for dominance. The INS Vikrant can operate 30 aircraft and has advanced automation features. India plans to build a second indigenous aircraft carrier, expected to cost $5 billion, to further bolster its naval strength against China's growing influence.
