India calls on Pakistan to act against Masood Azhar after his first public speech in 20 years
India has called on Pakistan to take action against Masood Azhar, the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed, after he delivered his first public speech in over 20 years. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned this development, highlighting Pakistan's inconsistent approach to terrorism. Azhar reportedly spoke to Jaish-e-Mohammed members, marking a significant anniversary related to the Turkish caliphate. His speech suggested plans to renew terror activities against India and Israel, raising concerns about his influence. Previously, Azhar's public appearances were limited due to security concerns following a failed assassination attempt on a former Pakistani prime minister. He had been detained after the 2001 Indian Parliament attack but was never prosecuted.
