India advises citizens to evacuate Bukavu as M23 rebels advance
India has advised its citizens in Bukavu, Congo, to evacuate due to advancing M23 rebels. The rebels recently captured Goma, resulting in over 770 deaths. Reports indicate M23 forces are now 20 to 25 km from Bukavu. The Indian embassy urged nationals to leave by any available means while travel routes remain open. They recommended preparing emergency plans and keeping essential items ready. Most Indians in Goma have already relocated to safer areas. India has expressed concern over the worsening security situation and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Approximately 1,000 Indians remain in Congo, with 1,200 troops deployed with the UN mission.
