Hyderabad faces thunderstorms and temperature rise this week
Hyderabad is facing a yellow alert today due to expected thunderstorms and gusty winds. Some areas may also see hailstorms during the day. Temperatures in the city are predicted to rise after today. They will reach between 23 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius on Monday, accompanied by a partly cloudy sky and potential rain, thunderstorms, or dust storms. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the alert for Hyderabad and several surrounding districts, including Mancherial and Jagtial. Last night, parts of Hyderabad experienced thunderstorms. Between Saturday and Sunday morning, certain areas reported significant rainfall. For example, Thalla Basthi Community Hall recorded 36.6 mm, while Jubilee Hills saw 36.5 mm of rain. A recent report shows a worrying increase in nighttime heat stress in the city. It attributes this to the urban heat island effect, where the urban center becomes warmer than surrounding areas at night. This temperature difference can make recovery from daytime heat harder, raising concerns for public health. Interestingly, during the day, the core city is still cooler than some peri-urban areas.
