Husband jailed for not paying maintenance in Chakan

A fruit trader in Chakan was sentenced to 30 days in jail for failing to pay maintenance to his wife and daughter. The court ruled he owed Rs 1.62 lakh, which he did not pay over the last six months. The trader, 35, was arrested on March 25 after a non-bailable warrant was issued on March 4. The court indicated he could be released if he paid the owed amount. The couple has been living apart since 2019 due to domestic disputes. In 2022, the court ordered the man to pay Rs 27,000 monthly but he failed to comply, leading to the legal action. Despite being offered chances to pay, the trader insisted he could not afford to meet his obligations. The magistrate noted the husband's reluctance to fulfill his responsibilities led to his imprisonment.
