Hup Teck to close after 100 years as Malaysia's last soy-sauce maker
Hup Teck, a Malaysian soy-sauce maker, will close on January 28 after over 100 years in business. Founded in 1914 in Gopeng, Perak, the family-run company announced its closure on Facebook, expressing gratitude to its loyal customers. The decision to close comes as owner Low Bak Tong, 72, cannot find a successor and must retire due to health issues. Hup Teck is the last remaining soy sauce factory in Gopeng, where it has used traditional fermentation methods. Customers are encouraged to visit the factory for final purchases of its soy sauce. Many expressed sadness over the closure, recalling their long-standing loyalty to the brand.
