House panel claims Philippine Vice President's office submitted fake receipts

inquirer.net

A House committee in the Philippines has suggested that receipts submitted by Vice President Sara Duterte's office may be fake. Evidence from the Philippine Statistics Authority indicates that many names on the receipts do not exist in the civil registry. Manila Rep. Joel Chua stated that nearly two-thirds of the 1,992 recipients listed in the receipts lack birth records. This raises concerns about the legitimacy of the spending of P500 million in confidential funds from December 2022 to September 2023. The committee's findings follow a similar investigation into the Department of Education, where many names on a list of fund recipients were also unverified. The OVP's receipts were submitted to justify various expenditures, including rewards and aid.
