Horror films transform children's classics into scary movies
The horror film "Screamboat: Terror a Bordo," featuring a bloodthirsty version of the original Mickey Mouse, will premiere on Thursday, following the trend of turning children's classics into horror movies. This film, based on the "Steamboat Willie" short, joins a wave of horror adaptations of beloved childhood characters, including "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" and "Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare," all made possible by works entering the public domain. These adaptations are possible because works released before January 1, 1930, are no longer protected by copyright. Upcoming releases include horror versions of "Bambi" and "Pinocchio," and a crossover film called "Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble."
