Hong Kong organ donation registrations reach 400,000
A record high of around 400,000 residents in Hong Kong have signed up to donate their organs, according to the city's health minister. Lo Chung-mau announced this increase on Sunday, noting a rise from 360,000 in 2023. Despite the growth, Hong Kong still has one of the lowest organ donation rates in the world. The health minister emphasized that there is still a lot of potential for improvement given the city's population of 7.5 million. He expressed hope for even greater increases in the future. Lo described organ donation as a "selfless" and "mighty" act, highlighting its importance for families who are grieving. He mentioned the inspiring cases of two infants in Hong Kong who received organ donations from mainland China after struggling to find suitable donors locally.
