Hong Kong Democratic Party considers disbandment in April
Hong Kong’s Democratic Party will hold a special meeting on April 13 to discuss potentially disbanding. The party’s leadership wants to hear from its members about this important decision. Chairman Lo Kin-hei announced the meeting on Tuesday. He explained that it would help establish a mandate for the leadership to handle the legal processes for disbanding the party. While this gathering is not a legal requirement, Lo believes it is crucial to listen to members' opinions. This conversation follows a decision by the party's central committee made in February. They decided to ask members whether the organization should dissolve and formed a task force to manage the legal steps if that happens. Lo emphasized that, although the party has the money to keep operating, the leadership felt it is best to propose disbandment due to current political conditions. He expressed confidence that members would likely support the proposal and that the dissolution could be completed within the year.
