Holly Pickett joins Republic of Ireland coaching staff
Holly Pickett has joined the coaching staff of the Republic of Ireland women's football team. Her appointment follows the unexpected resignation of Ivi Casagrande, who served as a performance coach. Pickett previously worked with the San Diego Waves and has experience with manager Carla Ward at Aston Villa and Birmingham City. Casagrande decided to leave to focus on coaching at the grassroots level and developing other coaches. She expressed pride in her achievements over the last 18 months and thanked the players and staff for their support. Casagrande emphasized that she is not leaving Irish football entirely, but is shifting her focus. Her departure has disappointed many players on the team. Captain Katie McCabe praised her as a "top class coach," while Megan Campbell expressed gratitude for her contributions to both the team and individuals. Amber Barrett described Casagrande as one of the best in her field and said she will be greatly missed. Pickett left her role at San Diego in November. She is expected to start her new position in time for two upcoming Nations League matches against Greece. The announcement of the squad for these games was made shortly before the news of Casagrande's exit became public.
