Hideo Kojima reflects on his evolving views on video game cutscenes
Hideo Kojima, known for his long cutscenes, once expressed concern about lengthy dialogue in video games. In a 1997 interview, he stated he wanted to avoid scenes where characters "blabber" for four or five minutes. Despite his initial hesitations, Kojima's games now feature extensive cutscenes, with "Metal Gear Solid 4" holding the record for the longest at 71 minutes. He acknowledged the need for cutscenes to convey the complex story of the series. As Kojima prepares for the release of "Death Stranding 2," it remains to be seen if he will create even longer cutscenes. His views on cinematic storytelling have clearly evolved over the years.
