Henry Ford Museum restores bus from Rosa Parks' historic arrest
The Henry Ford Museum has restored the bus on which Rosa Parks was arrested in 1955. After years of searching, the museum confirmed the bus's identity through historical records and purchased it for $492,000 in 2001. Restoration efforts began with a budget exceeding $300,000, using original materials and parts from similar buses. The project received additional funding of $205,000 from the Save America’s Treasures Program, highlighting its national significance. The restored bus was first displayed in February 2003 and has since become a key exhibit in the museum, commemorating Parks' role in the civil rights movement.
