Health risks linked to popular ultra-processed foods in the UK, warns expert
Professor Tim Spector has warned about the health risks of ultra-processed foods (UPFs), particularly highlighting tomato soup as a common example. He noted that the UK consumes more UPFs than any other European country. Spector explained that UPFs are often high in unhealthy ingredients and low in nutrition. He categorized foods into four groups, with UPFs being the most processed and linked to various health issues, including heart disease and diabetes. Recent studies have shown that high consumption of UPFs is associated with increased risks of several diseases, including cancer. Spector emphasized the importance of understanding food labels to make healthier choices.
