Harley Chamandy wins 2024 Werner Herzog Film Prize for "Allen Sunshine"
Canadian filmmaker Harley Chamandy has been awarded the 2024 Werner Herzog Film Prize for his feature film "Allen Sunshine." The prize, presented in Munich, includes a cash award of 5,000 euros. Chamandy, at 22, is the youngest recipient of this honor. Werner Herzog praised Chamandy's innovative work, noting his participation in Herzog's workshop at age 17. "Allen Sunshine" tells the story of a music producer coping with his wife's suicide while forming a bond with two local boys. The award ceremony took place on December 6, 2024, at the Munich Cinematheque, followed by a screening of the film. Previous winners include acclaimed directors Chloe Zhao and Asghar Farhadi.
