Hamas seeks negotiations for next ceasefire phase
Hamas has called for negotiations with Israel regarding the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire. This follows the group's recent handover of four Israeli hostages' bodies in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, marking the end of an initial series of exchanges. Under the initial truce, Hamas released 25 living hostages and returned eight bodies, while Israel freed 596 Palestinian prisoners. Negotiations for a second phase, aimed at a permanent ceasefire, have not yet started, but reports indicate Israeli representatives are on their way to talks. Despite the ceasefire, violence continues sporadically in Gaza. Israel has conducted air strikes in response to projectiles fired from the territory. The situation remains tense as both sides navigate the complexities of the ongoing conflict.
