Hamas releases hostages in exchange for over 600 Palestinian prisoners in ceasefire deal

Hamas released two hostages on Saturday in exchange for over 600 Palestinian prisoners, part of a ceasefire deal with Israel. The hostages, Tal Shoham and Avera Mengistu, appeared frail as they were handed over to the Red Cross. Four more hostages are expected to be released later. This follows a month of fragile ceasefire, despite issues regarding the return of the body of Shiri Bibas, which Hamas initially failed to deliver as promised. Hamas stated it has no interest in withholding bodies. Israeli officials accused Hamas of killing the Bibas brothers and claimed they were not shot but killed by other means.
