Habitat for Humanity invests $600,000 in Lorain homes
Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity is set to invest $600,000 in home repairs and new homes in Lorain by 2025. The organization aims to focus on the South Lorain neighborhood, working alongside city officials and the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority. The funds will be used for at least 30 critical home repair projects. Additionally, Habitat plans to build two new modular homes on East 29th and East 34th Streets. Modular homes are usually built in factories and then assembled on-site quickly. In total, Habitat will also construct 19 modular homes in Cleveland. The city of Lorain is considering a partnership with Habitat to develop new housing on the west side, which could combine modular and traditional building methods. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to improve the “Southside Gateway” community, as identified in a recent housing assessment. The study revealed a significant need for affordable housing, with many residents spending over 30% of their income on housing. The city has already completed nine home repairs, and more projects are underway.
