Guatemalan migrant charged with murder for subway fire attack in Brooklyn
A 33-year-old Guatemalan migrant, Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, has been charged with murder for allegedly setting a woman on fire at a Brooklyn subway station. The incident occurred while the woman was sleeping, and she died from her injuries. Zapeta-Calil, who has a history of using the synthetic drug K2 and alcohol, is being held without bail. He reportedly told police he was intoxicated and does not remember the attack. He was previously deported in 2018 but returned to the U.S. Surveillance footage shows Zapeta-Calil igniting the woman's clothes and watching as the flames spread. He has been described by shelter residents as increasingly withdrawn in recent weeks.
