Guardians finish spring training with 11-18-1 record
Vince Velasquez and Kolby Allard are in a tough spot as the Guardians prepare for the start of the baseball season. The team finished their spring training with a record of 11-18-1 after losing 13-2 to the Reds. Velasquez started the game, marking his first appearance of the spring. He allowed two runs in two innings but felt he pitched well overall. After his performance, he mentioned that he is waiting to see if he will stay with the Guardians or join another team. Both he and Allard have contracts that could allow them to move if another team needs them. Allard, who had a strong spring, struggled during the game, giving up eight runs. This was surprising, especially considering his previous success. Manager Stephen Vogt noted that both pitchers had good springs and expressed hope that they could stay with the team. The Guardians will soon find out if Velasquez and Allard will remain part of the roster as the season starts. Velasquez has expressed gratitude for the Guardians' support after recovering from elbow surgery last year. He also highlighted the good communication he has had with the organization. Sunday's game was the last official spring training game for the Guardians. They were out-hit 11-3 by the Reds. The Guardians' next game is against the Diamondbacks, where Gavin Williams is expected to start. Following that, the team will begin their season against the Royals.
