The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate has launched new campaigns to encourage more traders to register under the GST system. This effort is part of the Indian government’s strategy to widen the tax base. Recently, the Delhi East Commissionerate held a two-day outreach campaign. During this time, GST officials answered over 2,000 questions from traders and assisted them in the registration process. The campaign was successful, with more than 100 traders signing up for GST registration right away. GST helpdesks were set up in local markets to provide support. Many traders, who had mainly dealt in cash and were not previously registered, showed interest in getting registered. Officials mentioned that this effort is crucial for the Indian economy. To boost awareness, 200 students from local universities were recruited as GST Ambassadors. They helped spread information about GST rules and benefits by visiting shops and distributing pamphlets. The campaign also included street performances and public announcements to highlight the importance of paying taxes. Officials believe that these initiatives will help bring unregistered sectors into the formal economy, promoting transparency and economic growth. The CGST Delhi East Commissionerate plans to continue such efforts to increase registration and compliance among traders.
